Job DetailsDescriptionA.T. Still University's Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) is seeking a Chair for the Physician Assistant Studies department, reporting to the Dean of ASHS. This position is for an innovative and dedicated individual to oversee all aspects of the department including oversight of three programs and three program directors. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is comprised of the Doctor of Medical Sciences program; the Master of Biomedical Sciences program and the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program. The individual will work closely with all three program directors and dynamic residential and online faculty/staff within the three programs. This is a full-time position with salary, rank, and competitive benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Chair will work on the ATSU Mesa Campus located in Mesa Arizona.
Duties & Responsibilities:The Chair will:
- Be assigned to the Department of Physician Assistant Studies on a full-time basis.
- Be responsible for the oversight and organization of the administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis of curriculum, and planning/development of each of the three programs.
- Teach, evaluate, and counsel students.
- Work collaboratively with the Chairs Council comprised of 6 department chairs within the Arizona School of Health Sciences.
- Oversee processes and reports related to funding, evaluation, and accreditation for all three programs.
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all appropriate offices and departments within ATSU as needed.
- Oversee student recruitment and admissions processes for all three programs in collaboration with program directors, communications and marketing, and admissions.
- Liaison with appropriate offices and departments involved in medical/health education and with external agencies useful to the PA, DMSc, and MSBMS programs.
- Review educational literature and learning media to keep faculty abreast of new teaching/learning strategies.
- Provide guidance and direction to program staff and faculty.
- Secure, orient, and evaluate new faculty and staff in coordination with Dean and HR as needed.
- Assist the Dean with budget initiative planning and problem-solving activities related to the Arizona School of Health Sciences (ASHS) and the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.
- Provide feedback to faculty to assist in the improvement of teaching and faculty skills.
- Evaluate teaching and learning effectiveness of faculty and curriculum.
Experience & Education:- Five to ten years experience in higher education and the health professions.
- PhD, EdD, or related doctoral degree required.
- Must be a certified physician assistant with PA licensure or eligibility.
- Minimum of three years of leadership experience as a program director or higher.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Cooperative and able to work in team situations.
- Excellent management skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Skill in developing vision and innovation for the Department.
