Summary:
The role of the Manager Respiratory Therapy is to provide daily supervision and management of clinical care provided by the Respiratory Care Department, including PFT services and Sleep Care Services, as applicable. Additional responsibilities flow into the off-sites to ensure adherence to specific accreditation criteria, department, hospital, and where applicable. This role is that of expert practitioner, collaborator, communicator, educator, and clinician with management responsibilities. This role functions as a clinical specialist role across the continuum of care, positively influencing the quality and delivery of patient care. The site Manager, Respiratory Therapy collaborates with other CH site RT managers, providers, nursing, respiratory, pharmacy, and other department associates in the planning and optimizing of patient care delivery. Consults with other CH site RT Managers, providers, nursing, therapists, and other departments on patient care related issues, provides recommendations and assists in their resolution. Outside the system, communicates with vendors to provide continuing cost effective solutions and optimizing budgeted spending for the respiratory department.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS- Graduate of Respiratory Therapy Program
- Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Current Respiratory Therapist licensure in the State of New York
- Bachelor's degree required
- Current BLS required with ACLS Certification, with additional certifications in specialty areas desired
EXPERIENCE- Minimum three (3) years clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- Previous management experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY- Interpersonal skills necessary to work with all levels of healthcare personnel, as well as physicians, families, and visitors
- Possesses active listening skills and planning skills to carry out goals and objectives as directed and in concert with those of the hospital
- Ability to assess and drive implementation plans and strategies to meet those goals as set by CH system priorities and departmental needs
- Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements, as well as problem resolution
- Teaching abilities to assist the director in presenting optimum orientation and continuing education of associates
- Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment
- Performs principal clinical responsibilities, according to the appropriate age and condition of the patient
- In-depth knowledge of change theory and demonstrated ability to coach the change process
WORKING CONDITIONS:- Exposed to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens
- Works with a variety of medical gases
- The position may require lifting and positioning of patients and moving equipment to various locations throughout the facility
- The periods of standing and walking are common throughout the shift
- Responsible for carrying a mobile device
