Position Purpose:
Serves as a clinical expert to ensure patient care needs are met, safe care is provided, quality measures are attained, and an exceptional care experience is provided. Is an expert clinician resource that mentors colleagues in all aspects of patient care delivery, and provides ongoing professional development of others. Provides day-to-day leadership to align patient and family needs with human (colleague) and material resources within the department and organization through collegial collaboration with others.
What you will Do:
- Supervises and coordinates patient care on the care unit.
- Ensures that patient care, quality and safety standards are met daily for all patients through caring and leader rounding, leader standard work (Mercy Way,) and performs service recovery as needed.
- Serves as a mentor for colleagues by promoting critical thinking skills in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s plan of care.
- Collaborates with the Unit Based Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist to promote and provide the clinical and professional development of colleagues by identifying educational needs, sharing clinical knowledge, and structuring an education plan and educational experience to promote understanding and professional growth.
- Assists in interviewing, hiring, orientating, developing and completion of performance evaluations and/or performance counseling in accordance with employment and payroll procedures in collaboration with the clinical nurse manager/director.
- Responsible for recognizing colleagues, promoting and role modeling a positive work environment, teamwork, and colleague engagement.
- Pulls Andon to problem solve patient and colleague safety concerns, unmet quality outcomes, unfavorable patient care experiences and escalate per chain of command.
- Leads performance improvement and/or problem solving to improve patient and colleague safety, quality outcomes, and patient care experience to ensure root cause is identified, evaluate Yokoten opportunities.
Hours/Schedule: Full Time 36hrs a week, 7am - 7:30pm, every other holiday, every third weekend
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the state of Iowa.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or commitment to complete within four years of hire.
- Preferred Master's degree in nursing or health related field.
- Minimum of three years of professional nursing practice relevant to areas of responsibility. Progressive experiences in a nursing leadership role; i.e., Preceptor, Nursing Shared Governance, Safety Liaison, Infection Prevention Liaison, course work or work experiences that demonstrate progressive leadership.
- Professional certification in clinical specialty obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer.
