Job Description:
The Wellness Specialist is responsible for providing clinical leadership support in communities where a clinical leader may not be present. This position provides temporary coverage for the overall implementation, delivery, and coordination of resident clinical services at the community. The Wellness Specialist directly supervises all team members of the nursing department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, coaching, and managing team member performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
The Wellness Specialist is also responsible for assisting in onboarding and training new Wellness Directors and supporting our Greater Atlantic Division.
Responsibilities:
- Become completely familiar with the state regulations governing Assisted Living and ensure compliance in the department by regularly reviewing regulations checklist.
- Perform timely and accurate resident assessments utilizing assessment tools, and communicate changes to the Executive Director for billing purposes.
- Manage expenses within given budget parameters utilizing spend-down sheets.
- Provide oversight with medication management to assure all MARs are correct and that the residents receive medications timely and accurately, working with a consultant pharmacist as needed to assure community compliance.
- Ensure all charting is performed in a timely manner and in accordance with state regulations.
- Provide timely and honest communication with families to promote good relationships and keep them informed about the resident's condition and community events.
- Provide marketing support within the community by participating in tours and discussions with potential residents and their families about clinical needs.
- Provide assessments for potential residents to determine their eligibility for Assisted Living.
- Create positive team member relations through staff appreciation programs, recognition of excellent performance, and retention through regular feedback systems and promotional incentive programs.
- Provide appropriate guidance for team members by planning work schedules, assigning work duties while on shift, and directing daily work.
- Provide on-call backup to the community when not on duty. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent personal or health information concerning residents and staff.
- Ensure that any incident reports are completed properly and promptly.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Clinical Manager.
Qualifications:
- Currently licensed as a RN with a minimum of 1-year experience in senior housing and/or geriatric nursing.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Director of Nursing or Wellness Director with a demonstrated success in leading nursing teams to meet successful resident outcomes.
- Able to travel to various communities within the assigned market.
- Prior management experience preferred.
- Must be CPR and First Aid Certified or able to become certified within the first 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language and communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and team members.
- Able to be on call, and occasionally work nights, weekends, and holidays.
