POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant Team Leader is responsible for leading the clinic Medical Assistants in an enthusiastic and positive manner by providing guidance in regards to medical assisting operations. The Medical Assistant Team Leader is also responsible for setting up exam rooms, assisting the clinicians and preparing the patients for examination. This position reports to and is under the general direction of the Center Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Lead the Medical Assistant Team by providing guidance in regards to the Medical Assistant job duties.
- Prepare Medical Assistant schedules, complete time sheets and coordinate assignments of daily duties. Implement, monitor and assure adherence to CMC Standardized Best Practices.
- Ensure all quality control requirements are completed as stated in policies.
- Ensure ordering expendable supplies and medications are completed in a timely fashion and all exam rooms are stocked and ready for use.
- Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow.
- Knowledge of and performance of all MA duties.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to take direction from different clinicians.
- Function as part of a team in the provision of patient care and performance of daily activities.
- Assist provider and licensed nursing staff in the triage of patients and patient telephone calls.
- Assist in maintaining supplies in cabinets, drawers, crash carts and storage room, checking for expiration dates as applicable.
- Monitor medical equipment for proper function and report any suspect equipment to the Center Manager.
- Coordinate the referral of patients and the appropriate follow-up of referrals as directed by the nursing and clinician staff.
- Perform individual patient education in conjunction with and as directed by the clinician staff.
- Participate in staff meetings as needed.
- Complete records of reportable diseases and monthly reports as required.
- Maintain viability of vaccines and monitor vaccine refrigerator.
- Provide feedback to Center Manager regarding Medical Assistant work performance for completion of performance evaluations and/or other work performance issues.
- Participate in the Medical Assistant performance evaluation delivery process with the Center Manager.
- Review time cards independently or in conjunction with Center Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Two years of direct experience in a health care setting in a medical back office clinical capacity.
- Electronic Medical Records knowledge.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant, LVN, or RN training program.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; verbal and written.
- Current certification in basic life support certificate or ability to obtain BLS certificate upon hire.
- Valid CA Driver's License, proof of automobile insurance, and personal transportation.

- Skill in performing venipuncture and injections.
- Skill in maintaining records and recording test results accurately.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking for long periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 pounds. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. Requires exposure to communicable disease and bodily fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
