Senior Behavior Therapist Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of the Senior Behavior Therapist (SBT) role at Health Innovations of America’s (HIA) Behavioral Health Division in Minnesota is to work closely with supervising professionals, advanced certification holders and/or those pursuing advanced certifications to ensure integrity within clinical therapy sessions and provide high quality services for all Clients, Caregivers and associated personnel.
The SBT maintains a critical role in fulfilling our organizational mission. The SBT is responsible for assisting Clinical Program Leads and Clinical Program Managers with assessing Clients’ current level of development across any pertinent potential curriculum, assisting to design and/or maintain various components of Client programming, supporting high-intensity Clients and providing clinical mentorship through hands-on training, modeling and/or coaching.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements direct, group or indirect Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) intervention techniques in the center, home, clinic, school and/or other community environments - as indicated on Clients’ Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs)
- Implements ABA principled programming therapies for clients with behavioral, emotional and/or developmental concerns with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder or related disorders
- Accurately collects behavioral data relevant to each Client’s programming - as indicated on ITPs
- Maintains a thorough understanding of all ITP and programming materials including, but not limited to: ITP goals, programming objectives and exemplars, Short Term Objectives (STOs), Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and all other relevant treatment information for Clients on assigned caseload
- Conducts a minimum of 35 direct and/or indirect billable therapy hours and/or encounters per week
- Assists in training new and existing behavioral intervention providers (EIDBI Level I, II or III) to implement ABA techniques and effective programming strategies - as indicated on Clients’ ITPs
- Provides effective Observation and Direction (O&D) sessions to optimize Client and provider engagement, therapy efficacy and overall programming success through modeling, coaching and/or resource guiding
- Assists in modeling and assessing competencies for new and existing behavioral therapists (BTs) seeking potential for advancement
- Accurately and thoroughly records billable unit / hour justifications in clinical note documentation in accordance with EIDBI requirements by the end of the day applicable to the service provided
- Maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of the implementation process necessary to engage in a restrictive procedure safely and effectively
- Supports involvement in any escalated behaviors when appropriately indicated throughout the duration of the incidental behavior until conclusion is reached
- Participates in Client’s mandatory clinical debrief following any escalated behaviors or restrictive procedures
- Completes initial review of materials, documentation and therapy specifications including confirmation of duration and billable service codes that are associated with and contribute to weekly clinical audits
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with all team members, parents, caregivers and/or other professionals
- Consults with caregivers and/or cross-functional professionals for Clients on assigned caseload, as necessary
- Attends all relevant 1:1 meetings, collaboration groups, staff meetings and/or training opportunities
- Participates in all activities necessary to maintain RBT credentialing including, but not limited to: receiving ongoing supervision, maintaining documentation requirements, adhering to the RBT Ethics Code, managing self-reporting requirements and successfully completing any RBT renewal competency assessments
- Communicates timely, effectively and continuously with all members of the Extended Leadership Team (ELT) and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), as appropriate
- Complies with all organizational, health, local and federal policies and procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A desire to make a difference in someone’s life
- 2 or more years of exposure to and/or active Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) experience
- 2 or more years of experience working with children, teens and/or other individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, behavioral disabilities, cognitive or functional developmental disabilities, direct support, educational support, and/or with a related Client population
- Current and active Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) credential - May be substituted with the ability to successfully obtain an RBT credential within 90 days of hire
- Current and active Restrictive Procedures and/or Crisis Certification - May be substituted with the ability to successfully obtain the SafetyCare certification within 90 days of hire
- Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences (e.g., mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, etc.) - Education may be substituted for 1:1 years of equal career based experience in the ABA field
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primary Setting - Clinical Center and/or Office Based
- Secondary Setting - Community Based, such as educational institutions and/or public areas
- Tertiary Setting - In Home Based with Informed Explicit Expressed Consent
- Essential Physical Requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, jogging, stooping, climbing, jumping, lifting, twisting, reaching, bending, typing and writing.
- Essential Physical Lifting/Pushing Efforts include, but are not limited to: Sedentary (up to 10 lbs) through Heavy (over 50 lbs)
- Exposure may include, but is not limited to: hazardous materials, bodily fluids and high decibel intensity noises.
- Travel Requirements include, but are not limited to: safety and compliance based operation of a motor vehicle to, from and in-between any locations necessary to perform essential role responsibilities of up to 100 miles per day, exclusionary to any initial commute distance - as assigned (Up to 50%)
