Overview
The Music Therapist I provides mental health services to students with multiple disabilities in a full day classroom setting. The Music Therapist uses music as a medium to assist students in meeting defined educational goals and objectives. Music therapy is specially designed to address the behavioral, psycho-social, emotional, communicative, physiological, sensory-motor, and cognitive needs of students.
Hours: 16 Hours
Responsibilities:
- Provides individual/group therapy for children employing music therapy interventions & techniques.
- Maintains up-to-date records of contact, including nature of intervention, periodic reports and termination summaries.
- Consults with community and other Kennedy Krieger professionals as necessary.
- Maintains positive communication in a professional demeanor with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed. Maintains documentation of all contacts.
- Provides evaluations of children as necessary.
- Participates in classroom team meetings, mental health team meetings, and IEP meetings as needed.
- Assists with supporting the school mission and goals in a positive and professional manner with a student-centered school culture and climate as designed by the administration as specified in school and KKI policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
- Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
EDUCATION:
- B.A. Music Therapy and/or B.A. in similar field with equivalency in Music Therapy.
- Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) or eligible for the Board Certification Exam. Certification must be obtained within six months of date of hire and maintained thereafter.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in music therapy is preferred.
