JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A Research Technologist - life sciences position is available in the Yang lab in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Physiology at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The successful candidate will be responsible for lab ordering, lab organization and providing research support to postdocs and students in the lab. The research technologist will be expected to have received some training in common techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, or animal husbandry. The research technologist is expected to carry out an independent research project under the supervision of the PI and will receive additional training needed for the research project.
Primary duties may include but not be limited to:
- Conduct research projects or experiments; ensure protocol adherence; review progress and evaluate results
- Perform a variety of experimental tasks including assays, material tests, specimen evaluation, and cultures
- Execute and develop data collection procedures; record, correlate, and analyze data; prepare analysis summaries
- Contribute to the design of research methods; identify potential problems; recommend solutions and technical approaches for problem solving
- Make recommendations for the use of data collection and management
- Train users in equipment operation and research techniques; explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, limitations, and outcomes
- Develop project protocols; provide input in determining feasibility of goals and objectives; responsible for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of assigned projects
- Author papers, proposals, presentations and reports in order to disseminate findings to the larger research community
This position will be filled at an Professional or Intermediate Professional Level depending on the candidate's experience and education. This position requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience for an Professional Level. Additional education and/or experience is required for higher level positions.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $34,800.00 - $55,500.00
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
