STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical, and academic experiences. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high-quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility, and developing recommendations for treatment.
- Design individual treatment plans, interventions, and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Instruct eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.
- Interpret medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language pathologist’s experience and goals for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
- Maintain files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
- Provide speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Refer to BIE Job Category Standards for additional qualification requirements and substitutions for education. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the BIE Job Category Standard.
BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
- ASHA Certification OR Equivalent
- 2 years’ experience as a Speech Pathologist
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Good distant vision and ability to read printed material the size of typewritten characters is required; glasses permitted.
- Ability to hear the conversational voice, with/without a hearing aid.
- Must possess emotional and mental stability.
