The County of San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) seeks a Board eligible or Board-certified adult psychiatrist to join the Central County Behavioral Health Center in San Mateo, California, to work with adult BHRS clients with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. This is a full-time position.

The position offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package which includes County funded malpractice insurance, pension plans, health benefits for retirees, a 5% match into deferred comp, reimbursement of professional dues and expenses (up to $3,000/year), an additional 5% increase in salary for each qualifying Board certification up to two (2) Boards, administrative leave time at 5 hours per pay period up to 260 hours (prorated for part-time employees), three days of Winter Recess (24 total hours) leave time, and a wellness program, including exercise classes, worksite massage, and an onsite gym. BHRS positions include a hybrid model of remote work.
The Central County Behavioral Health Center serves multiple large cultural populations. Bilingual fluency in San Mateo County threshold languages (Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog) is highly desirable. We are specifically seeking bicultural candidates and/or candidates who demonstrate cultural literacy, sensitivity, and a strong desire to work with cultural populations.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:- Conduct psychiatric assessments and make diagnoses.
- Prescribe appropriate treatment plans and therapies.
- Medication management, including Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT).
- Coordinate the work of consulting medical specialists.
- Act as physician member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Train and supervise medical students, interns and residents.
- Provide clinical supervision to licensed and professional staff.
- Prepare reports and maintain records of activities.
- Conduct and direct individual and group psychotherapy.
- Consult and work with other medical and/or mental health professionals.
- Confer with clients' relatives regarding illness and treatment.
- Maintain electronic records according to BHRS standards.
- Develop comprehensive case histories.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:Board Certification or completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
Licensure/Certification:- License to practice medicine or osteopathy in California.
- Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge of:- Current developments, trends and research in medicine and psychiatry.
- Basic understanding of clinical supervisory principles and practices.
- Pharmacology and psychopharmacology.
- Proper documentation of clinical services.
- General Medicine and its relationship to psychiatry.
- Current techniques of individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.
- Chemical dependency and abuse.
- Psychiatric principles and practices.
- Community mental health practice.
- Treatment approaches and differential diagnosis of the mentally ill.
- HIPAA regulations.
- Medical ethics as they relate to patient care.
Skill/Ability to:- Diagnose and treat patients.
- Develop and monitor treatment plans.
- Establish effective working relationships with patients, families, and staff.
- Learn and apply laws, statutes, codes and regulations.
- Maintain medical records and prepare reports.
- Serve on interdisciplinary teams.
- Clinically supervise licensed and professional staff.
