Scrub Technician provides patient care under the direct supervision of O.R. Staff Nurse through scrubbing surgical cases. Assist Nurse with circulating duties, including helping to obtain the appropriate supplies, instruments, and equipment for the surgical procedure.
Education
Graduate of a Surgical Technician Program - Preferred
Experience
License & Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
- Set up OR room per guidelines for each procedure, with quick turn over times between cases.
- Seeks and maintains National certification after one year of employment and/or eligibility requirements met for specific certification.
- Light sources, instruments, and accessory equipment are consistently checked for proper functioning. Performs as an assistant to attending physician under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures by cleaning counters, light sources, carts, emptying suction canisters, and sets up appropriate equipment for the next procedure.
- Correct procedure card for supplies and instruments is identified and used. Sufficient quantities of supplies and instruments are pulled for each procedure. Case carts are completed accurately and promptly.
- Assists in room set up. Helps move/transport patients. Assists with patient prepping.
- Educates and implements AORN standards. Educates and implements environmental standards.
- Follows established processes for achievement of tasks. Keeps team leader/management team informed of tasks not completed or challenges in assignments.
