Position Summary
As the pharmacy manager at HCHC, you are a member of the healthcare team and are integral in providing high quality, accessible and affordable healthcare to the patients of HCHC and our community. The pharmacy manager is responsible for providing day to day leadership and direction to support the pharmacy team’s ability to best serve the patients and HCHC’s mission to provide affordable access to quality healthcare. The pharmacy manager will serve as the operations manager, Pharmacist-in-charge of record, and as a member of the pharmacist team.
Responsibilities
- Promote timely, quality care & exceptional customer service
- Collaborate with pharmacy team to develop and maintain efficient workflows
- Identify training gaps and implement mitigation strategies to improve pharmacy operations
- Supervise pharmacy personnel
- Prepare schedules, coordinate staff assignments, and approve PTO requests in accordance with forecasted business demand.
- Monitor the progress of assignments and performance of all assigned personnel, coaching and disciplining staff as necessary
- Perform audits to ensure medications are billed and paid for accurately.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve health outcomes, safety, and service levels
- Address pharmacy related incident reports, complete analysis, provide staff training & re-education, and collaborate with leadership team to implement operational changes promoting safety
- Implement & operationalize new programs
- Identify and address patient and provider concerns in a proactive and timely manner, and complete appropriate follow-up as necessary
- Educate pharmacy staff, HCHC staff, and patients regarding the programs & services offered at HCHC
- Promote awareness and growth of on-site pharmacy services
- Develop and retain a high functioning team of pharmacy professionals
- Conduct recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of pharmacy staff
- Perform staff orientation, training, and competency assessment
- Complete performance evaluations of direct reports
- Coordinate and lead team and staff meetings
- Identify and deal with personnel issues in a proactive and timely manner, with appropriate follow-up as necessary
- Provide frequent and transparent communication to employees through verbal and written communications
- Operate in compliance with all governing bodies and insurance contracts (FQHC, State Board of Pharmacy, OPA 340B, DEA, OSHA, FDA, etc.)
- Ensure that the pharmacy follows the policies and procedures of HCHC and all government regulations
- Ensure all employees of the Pharmacy Department maintain up-to-date licensure and education as required by State and Federal Law and report any deficiencies to the Pharmacy Director
- Ensure pharmacy is compliant with guidelines and best practices for Federally Qualified Health Care centers & 340B program, as established by HCHC leadership
- Ensure compliance with insurance programs and services
- Serve as program coordinator for 340B services, achieving certification within 6 months of start date
- Ensure completion of monthly audits to validate compliance with 340B program requirements

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Experience as a staff pharmacist, minimum of 1 year required.
- Valid pharmacist license in Virginia
- Operations management experience, 1 or more years preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Virginia State Pharmacist License (upon start date)
- BLS certified (can be obtained during first 90 days)
- Certified to administer vaccines
- Current driver’s license and auto insurance
- 340B Program Certification within 6 months of hire
- The ability to speak, read and write in English is necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Light work, lifting to 25 pounds.
- Regular travel throughout the office and effectively interacts with staff.
- Communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas
- Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Sitting for long periods of time.
Work Location
- You may be required to travel to any of our sites as part of your responsibilities at any time.
