POSITION SUMMARY
Join our dynamic and growing team as a Design-Build Mechanical Principal Engineer in Houston! In this pivotal role, you'll lead cutting-edge mechanical design and construction projects, driving innovative solutions in HVAC, plumbing, and building systems. You’ll collaborate with top-tier architects, contractors, and engineers to deliver complex, sustainable projects across commercial, healthcare, and institutional sectors. Your leadership will shape the future of mechanical design, ensuring top-quality execution from concept through construction. What you’ll do:
- Manages a larger group of engineers, including staffing, training and performance management
- Responsible for achieving project goals and objectives
- May establish department objectives based on company strategic goals
- Ensures engineering standards are maintained and followed
- Provides design and engineering support to other departments as needed
- Manages conceptual design for specific projects
- Serves as design expert at project team meetings
- Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
- Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
- Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Presence in local Houston market (good connections with owners, GC’s, architects, vendors, other subconsultants/subcontractors, professional societies, etc.)
- Good understanding of constructability, how design impacts construction and how Engineering group can help avert risk and plan for construction in all project arrangements (including plan and spec). Goal is to get Eng lead more entrenched with local team.
- Vertical Market Experience: Mission Critical, Healthcare, Semiconductor, Higher Education. Commercial high-rise, food and beverage, pharma, etc. background a plus.
- Mastery knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as all design engineering aspects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of employees, clients and general contractors
- Strong leadership skills
- Proven ability to lead a large engineering group
- Strong public speaking ability
- Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
What you bring to the table:
- Four-year degree in Engineering or related field
- MS degree preferred
- Licensed PE required
