Hourly Rate: $24.55 - $35.54 per hour
Job Overview:
We are seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our team on the evening shift. In this role, you will work closely with the surgical team to ensure a safe, efficient, and sterile environment during surgeries. The Surgical Technologist will prepare and maintain the operating room, assist with surgical procedures, and handle instruments and equipment with precision and care. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of surgical protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation & Setup: Discuss surgical needs with the surgeon, scrub in before surgery, and prepare instruments and equipment before the procedure begins.
- Sterile Technique: Ensure sterile practices are maintained throughout the procedure, including cleaning and preparing the operative site.
- Instrument Management: Organize and maintain instruments on the surgical table, monitor for damages, and rectify discrepancies before surgery.
- Assisting the Team: Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, pass sterile supplies, hold retractors, and assist with draping and positioning the patient.
- Safety Compliance: Follow infection control policies, AORN Guidelines, and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe environment.
- Surgical Counts: Perform and document surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and other items as per policies.
- Post-Operative Tasks: Help with the disassembly and cleaning of instruments post-procedure, and ensure proper transportation for decontamination.
- Documentation & Inventory: Maintain accurate records, inventory, and sterilization logs, and collaborate on ordering supplies and managing surgical equipment.
Key Success Factors:
- Knowledge of infection prevention, sterile techniques, and regulatory sterilization standards.
- Understanding of human anatomy and surgical procedures to support the team during invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with the surgical and sterile processing teams.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and problem-solve in high-pressure environments.
- Willingness to adhere to hospital safety guidelines and infection control practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (CAAHEP or equivalent).
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT, OR
- Successful completion of formal training for surgical technology in the military or Public Health Service, OR
- Employed in a Surgical Technologist role before September 1, 2009.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- If no prior CST certification, GAP and CST are required.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience is required; new graduates are welcome.
