Lead Pharmacy Dispensing Technician
THE ROLE
As Lead Pharmacy Dispensing Technician, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the dispensing pharmacy technician team to ensure proper preparation of medications for order fulfillment through physical as well as automated packaging.
Additional tasks and responsibilities of the lead dispensing technician include:
- Creating weekly dispensing technician schedules as well assigning technicians to specific tasks as deemed necessary
- Leading, assisting, instructing, and overseeing the work of pharmacy dispensing technicians in all dispensing areas
- Providing regular and timely feedback on pharmacy technician performance
- Partnering with pharmacy leaders on team training plans
- Assisting in orientation, training, and education of all dispensing technicians
- Supporting the pharmacists on duty in guaranteeing security and efficiency in running of the pharmacy with order fulfillment
- Performing other duties as assigned by the pharmacy general manager and pharmacist in charge.
Dispensing Technician duties include the following:
- Prepare prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and at times mixing medication.
- Make requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the pharmacists.
- Receive and maintain inventory of drugs and chemicals and ensure their security.
- Verify that information on the prescription is complete and accurate.
- Print prescription labels and package prescriptions according to Long Term Care policy standards.
- Prepack medications using unit dose sealers.
- Monitor/document prepack product expiration dates and lot numbers appropriately.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
- Assist in automated compliance packaging dispensing process
- Assist in Narcotic Room activities to prepare Controlled Substance prescriptions according to Long Term Care Standards and Pharmacy Policy and Procedures.
- Assist in preparing non-sterile compounded products.
- Assist in preparing sterile compounded products after appropriate training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the long-term care industry
- Prior experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
- PTCB National Certification
