JOB TITLE: Staff Medical Technologist
DEPARTMENT: Laboratory
REPORTS TO: Director of Laboratory
Job Requirements
Education:
BS degree (MT) or Associate Degree (MILT) and registered with the ASCP or eligible.
Experience:
Previous experience preferred but not required. To utilize the hospital’s electronic data systems, individuals must have average typing skills and be comfortable working with a computer keyboard and mouse.
Physical:
Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Operates various lab analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, alarm systems, incubators, rotators, water baths, PCs, computer terminals and printers, lab refrigerators and freezers, and telephone. Frequent standing and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20lbs.
Job Summary
The staff MT/MLT will perform regular routine tests and procedures as assigned in the laboratory. The staff MT/MLT will perform and/or assist with routine maintenance. QC, trouble-shooting, instruction of new technicians and laboratory assistants. Performs venipunctures and capillary punctures and other related work when fully qualified as evidenced by the personnel training checklist, assisting in requisitioning and distributing supplies, collection, and terminal cleaning at the end of the shift.
