Facility Overview: Atrium Health Ballantyne Emergency Department is a freestanding emergency department to be operated as a facility of Atrium Health Pineville. The emergency department will include: 6 Emergency department rooms open 24/7, including one trauma room, 3-bay Triage area, 2 Observation/Holding bays, Imaging Services to support the ED (CT, Ultrasound and X-ray) Lab and Pharmacy Services located at 16035 Johnston Road, Charlotte, NC.
Job Summary: The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.
Essential Functions
- Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam.
- Properly identifies patients using two patient identifiers and assists patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.
- Interviews patients for a complete medical history and records it on requisitions.
- Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to end.
- Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols.
- Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed.
- Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.
- Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures.
- Practices principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor.
- Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.
- Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures.
- Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies.
- Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Assists other medical personnel when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.
Physical Requirements: Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation.
Education, Experience and Certifications: Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology required. ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire required in addition to current CPR certification.
