How you will create an impact
- This position will ensure high quality claim handling in the Healthcare Professional Liability (“HPL”) Claims Department of General Insurance (AIG, Claims Inc.).
- This challenging role involves negotiating, analyzing and resolving complex medical malpractice and GL claims at primary and excess levels.
- The role is also responsible for determining the scope and extent of available coverage, and reporting complex coverage issues when conflicts are conceivable.
- The analyst will investigate losses, orchestrate defense strategies for healthcare provider insureds, conduct independent assessments as to exposures and develop/implement effective litigation and action plans, including opportunities for contribution.
- The candidate will be required to participate in mediations, attend trials and occasionally conduct outside claim audits.
- The role requires clear and concise communications and recommendations with internal and external stakeholders, including Claims senior management, underwriters, insureds and brokers.
- The analyst will employ best claims handling practices, including thorough file documentation of exposure evaluations and resolution strategy.
- Report potential challenges anticipated in a given claim early and often to management. The role will require significant coordination with Claims management and senior management.
- Obtain appropriate authority to independently negotiate multi-million-dollar claims with premier plaintiffs’ counsel nationwide. Utilize ADR when necessary.
- Effectively strategize and coordinate litigation budgets with counsel, insureds and third-party vendors. Establish clear ground rules with defense and coverage counsel to maintain budget and work product expectations.
What you will need to succeed
- Strong knowledge of medical malpractice law and healthcare standard of care issues is preferred.
- 5+ years of medical malpractice / professional liability complex claims experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with strong negotiation, litigation management and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and computer skills combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast-paced environment.
- Exposure to multiple other insurance lines and complex claims is helpful.
- Some travel will be required.
- Law Degree (J.D.) or equivalent preferred.
