Description:
Provides professional medical care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
Reports to Director of Clinical Services.
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic/hospital environment.
Duties:
- Assist with admissions, consults, daily visits, and discharges.
- Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
- Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
- Perform a complete physical exam and record findings.
- Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and oral medications.
- Suture wounds.
- Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
- Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
- Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Instruct patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Assist physicians by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders, and transcribing orders.
- Triaging patient telephone calls and providing consultation.
- Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
- Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Perform related work as required.
- Utilize practice/hospital guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physician(s) in providing medical care to patients. Maintain certifications.
