Job Description
The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is responsible for leading and advancing initiatives that promote and embed inclusion and belonging within the organization. This role requires a strategic leader who can develop and implement programs, policies, and practices that foster an inclusive work environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best. This role will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and work closely with El Camino Health leadership, affinity groups, and the HR Leadership Team to align and integrate DEIB priorities and initiatives, with key responsibilities including:
Partner with senior leadership and HR Function Leaders to integrate and embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles and practices into all aspects of the organization's operations, including hiring, retention, promotion, and decision-making processes.
Act as a key advisor to the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Belonging Steering Committee and IDEB programmatic work
Direct the affinity group program and provide coaching and mentoring to staff on affinity group sponsorship, engagement, and event management
Collect and analyze statistical data to evaluate the Hospital's staff and patient population in accordance with diversity
Partners with the broader Human Resources leadership team to mutually advance understanding and impact of diversity and inclusion strategies.
Draft and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.
Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, community groups, and industry networks to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in DEI.
Acts as the subject matter expert and Champion, advising the Executive Leadership Team on Diversity and Inclusion strategies that drive organization impact.
Acts as Hospital liaison with government agencies concerning affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.
Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Provides training and policy updates to colleagues and organization, ensuring legal compliance of management and human resources staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additionally, the Director will work with appropriate clinical leadership to plan, direct, organize, coordinate and evaluate efforts aimed at advancing healthcare equity and reducing disparities across all programs, services, and initiatives within the El Camino Health System.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
6 to 8 years of Human Resources or related experience required with at least three (3) years specializing in equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, diversity programs, conflict resolution, and employee relations.
Demonstrated commitment to organizational excellence, program development, and working with diverse stakeholders.
Experience facilitating training sessions, workshops, and other educational programs on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive decision-making.
Able to work with sensitive and confidential material and possess good business judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proven dispute resolution skills.
Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws and regulations.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Bi-lingual skills preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Office; Workday preferred

Salary Range:
$87.01 - $130.52 USD Hourly
