Job Summary:
The Certified Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the anesthesia patient care team who works under the Department of Anesthesiology to assist the anesthesia providers in various settings by providing support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Sr Director, Surgical Services and the Director of Anesthesiology.
Responsibilities:
- Assist anesthesiologist/CRNA/Resident as requested, as long as within scope of practice. May be clinical.
- Assist with anesthesia case set up.
- Clean and restock OR carts.
- Perform simple maintenance on anesthesia equipment.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment, cleaning, storage, and uses.
- Ensure anesthesia equipment and supplies are present and up to date.
- Other responsibilities as directed by anesthesia providers. May include clinical duties.
The certified anesthesia technician demonstrates proficiency in:
- Use and care of physiological monitors relating to the administration of anesthesia.
- Biologic hazards, infection control, and standard precautions.
- Fire, electrical, laser, and explosion hazards in the operating room and other anesthesia-related areas.
- Storage, use, and safe handling of bulk and cylinder gases.
- Structure, function, and care of all components of anesthesia delivery systems.
- Troubleshooting anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring equipment.
- Sterile technique and the principles of aseptic practice.
- Usage of common anesthetic gases.
- Principles of purchasing and supply levels.
- Communication skills.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience where the primary function of the position was maintaining or repairing medical, mechanical, or electronic equipment, 6 months of which must have been in a hospital operating room preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies, required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, required.
Licenses / Certifications:
Certification as an Anesthesia Technician (CAT) by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT), required.
Other:
Ability to communicate in English (oral and written).
