The ideal Candidate for the Technical Project Manager position will help build platforms that are scalable through multiple orders of magnitude. The Technical Project Manager will play a vital role within engineering, driving huge projects that span nationally across the organization. This position will be accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects from inception to completion, related to an existing technology product or program. This position will proactively manage the end-to-end delivery of engineering work throughout the company and all dependent organizations, reporting out progress, ensuring dependencies are covered. The Technical Project Manager will operate between teams and architectures overseeing the gaps between teams, processes, and systems, while removing all blocking issues leading to a successful delivery.
This role, for the right person, will allow the opportunity to demonstrate technical abilities while defining and driving program initiatives and using technical knowledge to work with the engineering teams to deliver solutions. You will need to be a smart risk taker, who can deliver big ideas as well as transform them into scalable programs. The Technical Project Manager will work closely with senior members of the company preparing documentation for senior executives and align roadmaps with organizational objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accountable for orchestrating the work of 1 or 2 scrum teams so that they deliver business value and execute on their roadmap with precision and high velocity.
- Partner with product owners on the team to ensure the team understands the work the team is accountable for delivering and the value to the organization.
- Gather information for a full understanding of what the team must deliver, partnering with engineering leads on the team to explore the tradeoffs of various solution options, align on solution architecture and break down the engineering work needed to deliver.
- Accountability to create believable and achievable plans based on engineering work and dependencies that generate confidence that the team can deliver to committed dates.
- Accountability to orchestrate execution across one or more product lines to successfully ship features on time and under budget looking around the corner for blockers and proactively working with teams, partners, and leaders to create visibility and remove them.
- Lead as the Scrum Master for your team. Own planning, standups, demos, retrospectives, and the execution of your sprints. Remove blockers and always find the path forward in challenging situations.
- Accountability for making sure solutions/software built is compliant with agreed company process artifacts and required artifacts are produced and tracked in a timely manner.
- Manage and gauge technical debt. Ensure teams are building using modern practices and tools. Recognize and act on your responsibility for driving change for the entire development community.
- Responsible for operational excellence within your teams. Insist that your teams provide timely resolution of identified production defects. Understand service level agreements and how your systems are performing in relation to them. Drive deep analysis and drive corrective actions when failures impact external and internal customers and impact safety and soundness of processes.
- Will communicate upward and outward verbally and in writing.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (preferably computer science) or equivalent experience; MS or MBA preferred but not a must.
- 5 or more years of software engineering, systems engineering, or business intelligence development experience, in addition to 1-2 years of project/program management experience working directly with business intelligence technical teams.
- Understanding of one or more common business intelligence platforms – Teradata, Big data/Hadoop/Spark, data lakes, Machine learning using Python/Spark, Tableau, Real-time streaming data using Kafka and data ingestion tools (Ab Initio, Talend etc.).
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with technical management teams.
- Organizational and coordination skills along with multi-tasking capabilities to get things done in an ambiguous fast-paced environment.
- Ability to motivate and focus a collaboration to reach challenging goals.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and recommendations.
- Experience planning, estimating, and execution using lean-agile techniques. Knowledge of Jira required.
