Position Summary
A Medical Technologist in Clinical Genomics is expected to perform clinical diagnostic testing which includes DNA sequence data analysis from high-complexity tests such as the solid tumor sequencing panel, the hematologic malignancies sequencing panel, and clinical exome sequencing; perform variant curation and interpretation, develop protocols for variant curation and classification; and participate in new test developments and clinical research projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform highly and moderately complex tests by various analyzers in the Laboratory, and/or by manual methods, on various specimen sources such as blood, urine, and other body fluids, using established procedures, under close supervision.
- Perform routine molecular pathology procedures as needed.
- Automated Extractions: perform extraction of DNA and/or RNA extractions using an automated system.
- Preparation/Storage of reagents for various molecular techniques.
- Manipulate and operate laboratory equipment; perform maintenance and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
- Perform established quality assurance procedures and maintain appropriate records.
- Knowledge in molecular biology related protocols.
- Solid understanding of genetics, NGS technology, and statistics.
- Perform molecular tests according to SOP for diagnostic and research samples.
- Support and adhere to all CLIA and OSHA guidelines.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in related field.
- Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Science, that meets the CLIA requirements to perform high complexity testing.
- Experience in working with different sequencing platforms and genomic analysis pipelines preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
