About the Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Clinical Services, the Clinic Director, Surgery will provide direction and administrative leadership for UCLA Health’s Department of Surgery operations and clinics. The Clinic Director performs the management function of assigned clinics and operations, including direct supervision of all staff providing patient services regardless of whether the staff are health system or departmental employees. We are looking for a seasoned clinic leader, with surgery experience in multi-site clinic operations in a hospital, ambulatory, or ambulatory surgery center setting.
Select Responsibilities:
- Oversee clinical operations including meeting the requirements for compliance, patient satisfaction, patient safety, and quality and supervision of staff in accordance with UCLA Health policies and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor clinic productivity, billing practices, audit requirements, equipment maintenance, and IT services necessary for the success of the Surgery clinics and programs.
- Execute strategic plans for expansion and assist in implementing the strategic plan of UCLA Health as it relates to the Department of Surgery.
- Assist with the implementation of UCLA Health short and long-range goals to improve the overall operation of the surgery clinics and assure high quality, efficient, cost effective, and coordinated services, responsive to the needs of medical staff, nursing staff, patients and their families, other departments within UCLA Health, administration, and as appropriate, outside agencies.
- Coordinate activities between departments and practices to avoid duplication, increasing efficiency and providing higher levels of service where appropriate (e.g., billing and clinical operations).
- In conjunction with the managers of the various assigned clinics, assist in the development of a patient satisfaction tool to evaluate if we are meeting patient needs. Identify opportunities for performance improvement process to increase patient, employee, and physician satisfaction and financial effectiveness.
- Assist with the development and implementation of complex, comprehensive financial analysis, high level strategic modeling both short and long term, and provide advice to senior leadership.
Education & Experience:
- Master’s degree (Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health or related field) or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Healthcare managerial experience.
- Strategic leadership, planning, and change management skills.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results.
- Previous demonstrated expertise in managing patient services and nursing staffing in an environment with a high volume of patient visits.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze all pertinent information/data to make and communicate decisions to meet the unit’s current and future needs.
- Ability to establish a culture of integrity within their unit and with those external to the units.
- Skill in setting priorities, which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with faculty, residents, medical students, and staff from various social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with a patient population in varying degrees of health.
- Working knowledge of research-oriented patient care systems (preferred).
- Advanced financial expertise in budget planning and financial forecasting in healthcare (preferred).
- Knowledge of EPIC EHR (preferred).
A reasonable salary expectation is between $154,900-$415,000, based on experience and internal equity.
