Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Market Sector Development Leader (MSDL), we'll count on you to:
- Market leadership and business development
Business Development Responsibilities – The MSDL will work with BDL and each MS Leader as the overall leader responsible for assessing the marketplace, determining the best business approach for HDR, and then to drive our organization to win and secure contracts with clients in that Market Sector. The MSDL will assist each MS Leader to focus on the respective market sector, but a part of business development efforts will need to work cross-sector with other TBG market sectors as well as with other market sectors in other business groups. The MSDL will help each Director/Leader to deploy an organization that is effective in gaining market share, and that will successfully interface with HDR client development programs and the area business development leaders.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic vision and direction for each market and cross sector – coordinating the visions of the different services offered to the clients with the business group and operational leadership across the firm.
- Incorporate our corporate vision within each market sector to become the industry leader.
- Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to clients within each market sector working with our client managers.
- Participate as a member of the Socal Transpo Senior Leadership Team.
- Work with MS and BC Leads on development and delivery of area market sector initiatives.
- Supervise MS Leads and miscellaneous new hires whose focus will be winning work until they are ready to report to an MS or BC.
- Work with the client development leaders to drive client development and pursuit processes based on proven capture techniques.
- Support selected pursuits through client relationship development and/or through development of strategy and participation in pursuit activities.
- Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role-model in business and community organizations.
- Identify key investments (acquisitions and technology) that will maintain or drive HDR into industry leadership position.
- Monitor marketing capabilities and ensure each market sector is working with BC to achieve BG goals.
- Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations.
- Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations.
- Work with Fee Champions on key or large pursuits to get MOA fee approval.
Staff Development Responsibilities – The MSDL will assist the MS, BC and Cross Sector Leads and APMs to develop an organization that will best perform within the marketplace to win new work and to provide opportunities for staff growth and development. The MSDL will work with the Socal Pursuit Champions and Technical Leads on how to preposition for work, form teams and put HDR’s best put forward in proposals and interviews. MSDL will help facilitate fee reviews and approvals of MOA. It is recommended the MSDL create a training for Pursuit Champions and Technical Leads on prepositioning, pursuit champions role, fee champions role and interview coaching.
Recruiting Responsibilities – The MSDL will assist in the identification and recruitment of prospective future market sector employees. Also identify resource gaps and drive talent management and recruiting. The MSDL will recommend new markets that require addition of talent with different skills and work with MS and BC Leaders on a strategy for recruiting, finding UT and recommendation of salary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering, planning or a related field
- A minimum of 10 years of industry experience
- Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experienced in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits
- Experienced in overall staff development to include recruiting, career path and professional growth
- Experienced with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the market sector
- Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers and Area Managers.
- Demonstrated commitment to HDR values.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
