The Managing Director (MGD) of the Institute for Innovation and Global Engagement (IIGE) offers a tremendous opportunity for an individual who is excited about promoting global engagement through innovative program building and collaborative coordination with academic units across campus.
The MGD is the senior finance, operations, and administrative executive for the IIGE. They execute the operations of the Global Innovation and Design (GID) Lab and will work closely with the Program Administrator to ensure seamless operations across academic and professional programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNITY PROJECTS AND ENGAGEMENT
For community projects, the MGD will be directly responsible for end-to-end client support including:
- Advising on the range of workshops, microcredentials and executive education, including pricing, and lab booking process.
- Creating draft scopes of work and invoices.
- Executing logistics of workshops and design sprints.
- Creating workshop and annual reports including assessment and analysis.
- Supporting externally funded faculty projects.
- Presenting information about the GID Lab and facilitating community workshops as needed.
For community engagement, the MGD will be directly responsible for:
- Overseeing and actively contributing to smooth operations of all events, both internal and external facing.
- Providing high level support for Advisory Board and community partner meetings.
- Overseeing and actively contributing to the creation and distribution of products for publication.
- Creating international, national, and inter/intra campus MOUs and agreements.
- Supporting and creating content for high level community and campus relationships for fundraising.
- Representing the IIGE at campus and community events.
OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION
The Managing Director will:
- Coordinate a variety of general administrative activities necessary to the unit’s day-to-day operations.
- Understand and integrate the cyclic operational responsibilities of UW Tacoma into unit planning.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, conduct performance evaluations, and take corrective action as needed for staff and interns.
- Assist in the collection and evaluation of data to initiate a program or activity.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
The Managing Director will:
- Oversee the Global Innovation and Design Internship Program.
- Collaborate with the IIGE Program Coordinator on the NextGen Civic Leader Corps Program.
FINANCE ADMINISTRATION
The Managing Director will:
- Understand and appropriately utilize the IIGE's gift and revenue budgets.
- Compile, interpret, and communicate financial information to various audiences.
COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT
The Managing Director will:
- Interpret and integrate Federal, State, and industry laws or policies on corporate compliance.
- Implement current security protocols, as related to IT equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in global studies or communication or human centered design or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience within an academic or business unit.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A demonstrated record of managerial success and collaboration across diverse populations.
