Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned game Technical Director to lead a team of cross-disciplinary engineering team on a game project. The ideal candidate will oversee multiple technical disciplines, ensuring the successful implementation of the technical direction and style of the game product.
Responsibilities
- Technical Direction
- Coordinate with Creative Director, Art Director, Senior Producer and other project leadership to identify team needs, set team goals and feature specifications.
- Implement and oversee the technical direction of game projects, guiding the creative process to achieve high-quality output.
- Develop high-level strategies and translate them into actionable plans and team capacity.
- Oversee real-time game, tools/infrastructure and team workflow.
- Determine team policy and practice with all technical matters - specs for art and design, code standards, code reviews, etc. within the framework of overall company best practices.
- Leadership & Management
- Lead and mentor engineers through the complete development cycle, collaborating with Game Director, Lead Producer and other project leadership and external vendors.
- Manage leads and managers to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Help build the engineering team, including interviewing, hiring and developing engineering talent.
- Hands-on coding as appropriate.
Requirements
- You have 10+ years of professional and relevant experience in a game development environment with 2+ years’ experience leading an engineering team within a game project.
- Shipped multiple PC or console games as a Lead or above.
- You have extensive experience leading several engineering teams through a complete development cycle in partnership with co-development or outside vendors or specializes in set-up or release phase of development.
- Proven track record of managing multiple technical disciplines and guiding teams through various game development cycles.
- Broad understanding of all major facets of large-scale game engine architecture.
- Excellent skills in C++ programming and object-oriented architecture.
- Sound technical judgement in estimating task complexity.
- Strong personal communication skills.
- Leadership experience directing other engineers.
The salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $217,000 – $246,000. The salary offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors. The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
