Senior Director, Federal Team - National Supply & Care Delivery Team
Location: U.S. Field Based

The Sr. Director, Federal Team focuses on serving and partnering with federal government customers, primarily VA/DoD, and their partners in delivering healthcare to active duty, reserve and retired U.S. Military personnel, civilian employees, and their dependents. The Sr. Director will understand the unique needs of these customers and partner to improve outcomes and lower total cost of care. This role leads a team committed to enhancing the end to end customer experience; making our clinical expertise more accessible and beneficial for patients.
The Opportunity:
The Sr. Director is responsible for developing and delivering strategic account plans aligned with Genentech and Therapeutic Area strategies. These plans will drive business performance across our diverse portfolio by setting short and long term priorities and identifying opportunities where our priorities intersect with those of our federal customers.
To achieve this vision, the Sr. Director, will lead a team comprising a Director, National Account Executives, and Federal Account Managers. The Sr. Director will be crucial in managing, coaching and developing the team, ensuring that members embody our Operating Principles in all aspects of their work.
Key Accountabilities
- Customer Understanding: Understand and address the unique needs of federal customers to improve patient outcomes, lower costs, enhance quality of care
- Business Performance: Drive business performance by executing therapeutic area strategies.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and motivate a high performing team, fostering a culture aligned with Genentech’s Operating Principles.
- Strategic Planning: Define and implement short and long-term visions for the Federal Accounts, aligning with Genentech and Squad Therapeutic Area strategies.
- Representation and Advocacy: Represent the Federal Team and the National Supply & Care Delivery Team in cross-functional business planning processes, projects, and forums.
Who You Are:
Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Strong business acumen and commercial insight developed through a combination of industry experience, MBA, or similar postgraduate degree preferred (minimum of 12 years of experience).
- Prior Senior Executive Level Active Duty Military Health System Experience required.
- Previous cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology) or related industry, with demonstrable evidence of delivering results.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Developing and implementing strategic plans across complex healthcare environments such as managed care, including contracting strategy, administration, and pull-through.
- Experience and success leading teams responsible for driving revenue growth.
- Ability to lead complex cross-functional account teams and operate under ambiguity without a set playbook, including aligning teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead, influence, and work in a matrixed environment regardless of reporting structure.
- Track record of successful partnerships with customers and organizations (both externally and with peers/across the broader internal organization).
- Leadership and Development:
- Ongoing investment in developing self and others to enable others to achieve their potential, deliver ambitious goals, or achieve excellence.
- Excellent understanding of external laws, codes, and company policies that apply to the healthcare industry.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location in California is 212,000 - 384,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
This is a field-based position and overnight travel may be required. This position requires significant driving of either a company provided or personal vehicle as well as prolonged periods of sitting, both of which are part of the essential duties and responsibilities of the role. As a result, Genentech, Inc. (Company) from time to time will check your motor vehicle record for purposes of determining your eligibility for driving a Company vehicle or driving any vehicle on Company business.
