Description
We are recruiting for a Senior Health Actuary who will be responsible for performing as the lead Health Practice technical resource providing expertise in areas including modeling development and evaluation, rate setting, reserve calculations, plan/design analysis. The candidate may be based out of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, or Denver offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing as the primary or secondary consultant on Health Practice projects related to financial/actuarial modeling, pricing/rating or underwriting and other actuarial work for clients.
- Setting protocols for and reviewing claim cost analyses (including assumptions) during the preparation of health actuarial valuation report, plan design, budgeting, procurement, and regulatory issues.
- Acting as a technical resource on Health and Welfare design, financing and managed care issues, providing colleagues both inside and outside the practice with actuarial perspective on relevant inquiries. Supporting actuarial consulting projects in other West Region offices (some travel may be required) to include: review and analysis of data, establishing or reviewing actuarial models, and supporting new business development efforts.
- Contributing to the professional and technical development of the Health Practice including: continually developing and expanding own expertise; researching and keeping abreast of marketplace developments and trends; importing and disseminating information and knowledge regarding best practice concepts and/or approaches; contributing to the development of skills and abilities of colleagues and staff members; proactively identifying and attracting external talent to the practice, market and Company.
Key Requirements:
- 9+ years of health actuarial experience and preferably health and welfare managed care experience within a consulting and/or professional service environment.
- ASA or FSA and Member of the Academy of Actuaries credentials.
- Corporate or insurance company experience may be acceptable provided the individual has consulting experience knowledge and skills that are immediately transferable to a consulting environment (i.e. project management, client service focus, strategic/creative problem solving, business advisory orientation to addressing plan design/technical aspects of health and welfare and managed care plans, etc.).
- Expertise in pricing, rate setting, cost projections, reserve calculations and related issues for a variety of insurance coverages, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life and disability.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Collaborative work ethic with ability to interact effectively with a diverse audience, work independently and in teams.
