UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Newborn Hospitalist to join our team of healthcare professionals and contribute to our overall mission of serving the needs of the diverse families in Central Massachusetts. Job duties include:
Clinical Care
- Providing comprehensive medical care for infants in our:
- 22-bed Continuing Care Nursery (CCN), embedded within our 49-bed Level 3 NICU at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA
- 28-bed postpartum unit and 12-bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA.
- Attending high risk deliveries with a multi-disciplinary team, including Neonatology back-up.
- Performing procedures such as intubation, central line placement, lumbar puncture and thoracentesis.
- Performing inpatient antenatal consultations regarding issues of prematurity, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome and common chronic maternal medical conditions.
Education and Scholarship
- Providing bedside teaching to medical trainees, including medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers.
- Developing and implementing educational curricula, lectures, and workshops.
- Engaging in scholarly activities including medical education, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research that align with individual career goals.
- Collaborating with peers pursuing academic scholarship within the Department of Pediatrics and others at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Participating in departmental meetings, committees, and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, and quality.
- Contributing to institutional policies, protocols, and guidelines related to neonatal care.
Position & Organization Highlights:
- Early career physicians and colleagues new to the NICU are provided proctoring, teaching and ongoing procedural training.
- The Department of Pediatrics sponsors the Child Health Equity Center (CHEC) which supports initiatives and faculty development in the areas of advocacy, community engagement, and research while addressing social determinants of health and quality improvement.
- CMC physicians are faculty members at UMass Chan Medical School where teaching and research opportunities are abundant and collaborative initiatives are encouraged both within and outside of the institution.
- The UMass Chan Medical School offers a wide array of academic career opportunities to junior and mid-career faculty in advanced research skills, quality improvement and medical education.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) and board certification/board eligibility in Pediatrics.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
- Strong commitment to serving underserved communities, equitable family centered care, diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
