The Role
The Director of Individual Giving and Special Events will oversee a team dedicated to individual giving, encompassing annual and major donors, development operations and stewardship. The Director will be responsible for achieving goals associated with special events including our annual gala, Envision, and 1-2 smaller gatherings per year, and in partnership with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will provide leadership for the agency’s fundraising activities by focusing on building the major donor and legacy giving programs, and stewardship activities inclusive of events. In addition, the Director will oversee a portfolio of mid-level donors, contributions ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 and help build the JVS Legacy Giving program. A primary focus for JVS is building a more robust major donor program, both deepening the relationships with current donors, as well as prospecting and bringing new major donors into the JVS community. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and supervises and partners with the Development Operations Manager, who oversees the Development Team’s operations, data management, annual fund (small, mid-sum and prospective major donors) and fundraising events.
Scope
- In partnership with the CDO, set the strategic communications calendar for fundraising, working with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Development Operations Manager to implement a compelling case for supporting JVS. Lead and message the strategy to the team and ensure campaigns, solicitations, and appeals are aligned.
- Oversee Individual Giving, Events, and Development Operations team: Development Operations Manager (direct report), Development Coordinator, Development Systems and Database Analyst.
- Manage planning and implementation of the annual gala, including co-designing and developing the program for the event, managing an event consultant, writing solicitations and sponsorship agreements, partnering with the Director of Marketing and Communications on internal and external communication strategies, tracking contributions and payments, etc.
- Develop and implement a series of activities and communications to engage and steward donors of $1,000+ and Legacy Giving supporters.
- In partnership with the CDO, develop a strategy to build individual giving and legacy giving programs.
- Manage a portfolio of donors contributing $1,000-$20,000, implementing engagement strategies, and delivering exceptional stewardship to secure renewed and increased gifts.
- Support the Chief Development Officer in operations, internal communications, donor engagement, and tracking major donor fundraising efforts. Focus on increasing the number of major donors and revenue generated from the major donor portfolio. Integrate legacy giving into annual fund and major donor programs to achieve fundraising goals effectively.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience as a development professional with at least 3 years' experience working with individual donors and fundraising events.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive professional relationships with a diverse team of colleagues, clients, partners, and community members.
- Proven team leadership skills and experience.
- Self-driven, detail oriented, and organized; ability to maintain high productivity while balancing competing priorities, multiple projects, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Superior written and oral communications skills, skilled in crafting messages for specific audiences with a relationship-focused ethos.
- Demonstrated project management expertise.
- Ability to analyze data and metrics to inform goals, strategies, and tactics.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, project management software, collaborative/communication technology.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar relational database.
- Seasoned fundraiser adept at forging robust relationships and crafting a dynamic growth-oriented revenue strategy.
- Personal or professional experience with disinvested communities and a deep commitment to improving the quality of life for communities with low financial wealth and people of color.

- Annual Salary: $120000 - $140000.
