Position Overview:
The PA/APRN will independently assess and follow General GI patients in UHealth clinics in Doral and Uhealth Towers. This position is M-F, requiring 8 half days in outpatient ambulatory clinics. The Physician Assistant or APRN may also be involved in the interpretation and dissemination of results to patients for fibroscans performed by the lab.
Job Functions:
- Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessments and collaborates with a physician in formulating treatment plans.
- Writes prescriptions for medication and therapeutic measures in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff.
- Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician.
- Sees patients in follow-up between infusions and post-procedure as necessary.
- Initiates and maintains infusion orders for non-chemo infusions as per protocol.
- Reads and assesses fibro scan studies and provides interpretation once trained.
- Orders appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of care appropriate for the patient and family.
- Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.
- Provides medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care effectively.
- Administers nursing assessments including performing examinations and giving injections.
- Assesses severity of patient's condition and directs them to appropriate medical providers.
- Provides peer-to-peer reviews with insurance carriers in support of patients' medications.
- Consents patients for GI procedures and places orders for procedures and preps.
- Maintains EMR inbox and closes encounters timely according to UM MG guidelines.
- Responds to patient inquiries and communicates results to patients in coordination with back office staff.
Core Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida PA or APRN License
Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, with previous experience in GI or Hepatology practice as RN or PA or APRN.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
- CITI Certification for Clinical Research Study participation.
- Previous experience with EPIC EMR software or demonstrated ability to manage patients in EMR.
