Provides special medical and surgical care to Boys Town National Research Hospital patients and referral patients. Provides direct medical and surgical care and participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinic teams.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Provides care of GI patients in the hospital and clinic environments.
- Serves as a medical member of the multi-disciplinary evaluation and remediation team with special responsibility for the care of children with digestive system problems at Boys Town National Research Hospital inpatient unit or the pediatric ambulatory care units.
- Designs and conducts clinical and/or basic research projects in area of specialty as approved by the Director, Boys Town National Research Hospital, consonant with the overall goals of the Boys Town National Research Hospital.
- Cooperates with other Hospital staff members in the conduct of clinical and/or basic research projects.
- Participates in and/or conducts the various educational programs developed by Boys Town National Research Hospital in undergraduate and graduate medicine, continuing education, nursing, and related allied health fields.
- Participates in the development of program/project objectives, sub-objectives, and staffing needs for the medical program as may be required for sound management decision making.
- Undertakes special projects as directed by the Director, Boys Town National Research Hospital.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to demonstrate willingness to serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, involving non-physicians, dealing with communicatively disabled children.
- Ability to apply research expertise as demonstrated by records or sustained work published in medical journals.
- Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing, with patients, families and staff, and collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.
- Ability to make assessments and problem solve.
- Ability to keep complete records of all events and results of encounters to patients.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a Doctor of Medicine Degree from an accredited medical school required.
- Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, and in gastroenterology and nutrition from the American Board of Pediatrics Sub-board in Pediatric Gastroenterology required.
- Possess or be able to attain medical licensure in the State of Nebraska required.
- Have, or be able to qualify for, a Creighton University Medical School faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and be able to qualify for clinical hospital privileges required.
- Minimum of three years pediatric residency training and additional training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, including medical research and treatment of infants, children, and teens with digestive, liver, and nutritional disorders required.
