Position Overview
As a member of the BJC HR executive leadership team, the Vice President of Total Rewards will drive strategic, transformative change within a highly complex, customer-centric environment. The Vice President of Total Rewards will positively impact the company’s competitive position by collaborating closely with senior leaders, hiring managers, and HR Business Partners to translate business strategy into meaningful Total Rewards strategies that meet the organization’s short term and long-term goals. The VP of Total Rewards has 2 direct reports: a Director of Compensation and a Director of Benefits.
Eessential Accountabilities
- In partnership with Chief People Officer (CPO), develop and align the total rewards strategy to the goals of the organization, and ensure it is positioned to attract, motivate, and retain caregivers.
- Lead and develop Compensation and Benefits teams, encouraging ongoing development to keep current on training, practices, trends and compliance matters to provide a high level of expertise to business.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert in the development of annual incentive compensation and other incentive plans, and oversight of benefit plans/plan design.
- Lead and manage Compensation and Benefits portfolio, designing solutions that meet the business needs and ensures the day-to-day is executed accurately and efficiently.
- Provide oversight of health and welfare, fringe benefits, and total compensation programs to enhance controls, reduce risk and maintain compliance.
- Lead the organization's employee population health and disease management efforts, designing programs to encourage and incent employees to improve their health, prevent/manage chronic diseases.
- Collaborate with the Talent Management and Business HR Leadership teams to ensure compensation programs support leadership development and management succession plans.
- Collaborate with internal resources to guide the Total Rewards value proposition to ensure a competitive edge in the marketplace and affirm BJC Health System as an employer of choice.
- Ensure all company-sponsored plans, including their design and changes made to them, are in compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
- Support merger and acquisition activities, including due diligence, evaluation, and integration of pay and benefit programs as well as HR systems and payroll.
- Establish a consistent operating model that is simple, scalable and measurable.
- Build and develop an exceptional team across a variety of roles and coach them to excellence.
- Facilitate a partnership across human resources, operations, and finance that results in the development and/or improvement Total Rewards strategies, business process, and forecasting models.
- Remain flexible to jump in as a team member in a positive and professional manner on special projects, initiatives or other appropriate duties as needed.
- Actively participate in HR Executive Team with a holistic approach to how HR works together.
Position Requirements
The Vice President of Total Rewards will possess the following combination of skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS, MA) in human resources, business, organizational development, or other related fields is preferred.
- Human Resources certification preferred (i.e., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, TMCP).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a human resource leadership role within a large, complex organization.
- Expertise with complex benefit plan designs.
- Experience consulting with senior executive and leadership teams to problem solve and subsequently design and implement strategic benefit plans in support of organizational goals and needs.
- Exhibits a high level of influencing, diplomacy, negotiating, and consulting skills.
- Excellent strategic thinking, planning, change management, and project management capabilities.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication, presentation, project management, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to generate results through influence in a matrix environment with multiple and diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and effectively manage multiple complex projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for continuous improvement and best practice results; considered a champion of innovative and practical business solutions.
