Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Senior Staff Systems Engineering leader to join the Engineering Transformation team in support of the Sector Digital Engineering Competitive Design (DECD) Organization. In support of Digital Transformation, we are looking for a process-oriented team member that will be involved with various key strategic tasks including continuous improvement of MS Engineering Principles and Operating Practices (PrOP), guidance and SME support of the Systems Engineering Rigor (SER) Initiative for the Sector and alignment and in support of each Divisions SER initiatives. In addition to partnership and collaboration with Operations, Quality, and Capture organizations to aid in scaling and auditing exiting processes requiring travel to all major NGMS sites.
In general, this position defines, designs and implements continuous improvement programs across the sector to help improve employee and operating efficiency, quality, while reducing non-conformances and defects. This position will require facilitation of collaborative team activities and act as a Product Owner in an Agile environment using Jira and Confluence.
The candidate must have exceptional problem-solving abilities, troubleshooting expertise, and be able to drive challenging technical issues to resolution to meet customer and mission-critical timelines. Leadership skills include the ability to help guide the program through a culture transition that will be based on systems engineering rigor. This position requires ability to define/review communication designs and ensure that requirements are met for cost, schedule, and technical performance. This position will also require engineering leadership and coordination with multi-discipline functional organizations as well as internal and external stakeholders. The candidate must excel at preparation and presentation of mixed technical and project management topics to senior leadership and senior technical advisors. Superior written and verbal communication is mandatory. Broad systems development experience and understanding of the DoD, Intelligence Community, and their missions is desirable. Prior experience with Cost Account Management and EVMS oversight for multi-phased development projects is preferred.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of experience, a Master's degree with 13+ years of experience or a PhD with 10+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
U.S Citizenship is required
An active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance is required with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.
12+ years of technical leadership experience including total lifecycle, integrated product-team, and Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) leadership.
Experience across the full system development lifecycle with demonstrated expertise in Systems Engineering principles and practices.
Experience with and proven customer intimacy with one or more US Navy, USAF, DARPA customers.
Proven ability to lead technical teams and oversee complex issues including troubleshooting; including experience with control and navigation systems through implementation.
12+ years subject matter expertise with requirements authoring/editing/management with large system-of-systems, systems design, modeling and analysis, systems integration, manufacturing, V&V.
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering for requirements and architecture management.
Extensive experience with Requirements Management and the requirements management tools database, DOORS.
Ability to travel up to 50% time as a liaison for the Sector with primary focus on Systems Engineering Compliance, Auditing, and Coaching.
15+ years of experience developing planning, training, and technical briefings for wide ranging audiences including technician, engineer, sub-contractor, client, executive leadership. Demonstrated ability to instruct.
An active DoD Secret Security Clearance is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher.
Broad systems development experience to include first-article concept development and operational deployment of new systems.
Robust understanding of both the operations and sustainment of ground-based government communications systems and their interactions with national security space payloads and missions.
Experience in the Space Domain / Space Vehicles, subsystems and components.
Prior experience in leadership as the prime contractor directing and coordinating execution of multiple sub-contractors toward an integrated solution.
Cross-domain technical experience including RF communications, space-to-ground communications, network engineering, and electrical/mechanical systems.
Experience designing and executing cross-functional trade studies using requirements-based criteria assessments.
Salary Range: $174,800 - $262,200
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
