The Florida Department of Health in Putnam County, FL is accepting applications for a General Dentist to perform dentistry for children and adults. New, or recent, graduates are welcome to apply. The following education/experience is preferred, but not required: completion of general practice residency (GPR), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), and/or pediatric dentistry.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible position, assigned to the Dental Program within the Putnam County Health Department. Incumbent will work independently and make decisions based on analysis of data and knowledge of dental practice. Incumbent will maintain skills and complete ongoing training to maintain an active license in accordance with the dental practice act.
This position provides professional dental services consisting of examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, and care of conditions within the human oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency, surgical, preventive, and restorative dental care to children and adults. Incumbent will perform diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and surgical procedures, within the scope of the dental practice act. Incumbent will develop treatment plans and maintain treatment records, in accordance with the dental practice act.
The work includes promotion and establishment of population-based dental preventive and educational programs and related dental public health activities. This incumbent will collaborate with the Dental Clinic Director and the Dental Clinic staff to promote community and school-based preventive educational programs. Incumbent will promote the development of a county-integrated & coordinated oral health system, between the public and private sector. Incumbent will provide consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities regarding oral health issues; this includes engagement of strategic planning for outreach events within the community.
This incumbent will coordinate and direct the clinical portion of dental services, including all documentation required to assure compliance with the Florida Department of Health Dental Program expectations. Incumbent will closely monitor the quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Incumbent will provide guidance to the program’s Dental Hygienist(s) and Assistant(s) and will work collaboratively with management and ancillary staff to create systems and processes that generate sustaining revenue to assure all operational costs are covered by income.
Performs all other related duties, as assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and techniques of dentistry.
- Knowledge of dental treatment techniques.
- Skilled in using dental instruments and equipment.
- Skilled in basic restorative dentistry, stainless steel crowns, pulpotomies, tooth extraction, and treating dental diseases, infections, injuries, and malformations of the mouth and teeth.
- Ability to perform dental examinations and diagnose dental problems.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to monitor the quantity and quality of dental care.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities.
Qualifications:
- Licensure as a Dentist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes.
