Overview:
The Director, Financial Analysis & Reporting, will be a key leader of our dynamic Technology & Operations Finance team and will support multiple functional areas within the Technology & Operations organization. This includes activities and initiatives that support the operating plan development, expense actuals and outlook review and analysis, metrics and key performance indicators reporting and analysis, and process improvement. In addition, the Director will provide oversight and/or individual contributions for standard and ad hoc reporting and analysis, as well as help ensure data integrity of the IT Service Costing (IT financials sub-ledger) Apptio application. The Director will bring strong communication and relationship skills to lead and engage a small team and build effective working relationships across multiple levels and functions within the company. This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities include:
- Provide expense reporting and analysis for the Operating Plan, Outlook, and Actual expenses, including segment allocated impacts and Invest/Run (IT) or Fixed/Variable (Ops).
- Lead the expense forecasting and overall expense financial management and analysis for the responsible functional areas, as well as support the overall organizational reporting.
- Ensure consistency and compliance with accounting and financial policies and procedures.
- Participate in the development of strategic direction and help evaluate strategic options and opportunities for Technology & Operations and impacted businesses by analyzing key performance indicators and trends.
- Prepare and present budget, forecasts, variance and financial strategy recommendations to senior Technology & Operations leaders, and applicable CFOs.
- Lead and/or participate in complex special projects and provide guidance to staff leading special projects.
- Effectively lead and engage a small team and build and maintain effective working relationships across a variety of functions and levels across The Hartford and with external stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of finance or a combination of finance and finance-related experience in a large corporate setting is required; experience in Technology and/or Operations-specific experience preferred. Experience in insurance/financial services is a plus.
- Demonstrated competencies are critical thinking, problem solving, strategic planning, leadership, communication, business acumen, flexibility and negotiation. Ability to see the “big picture.”
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Strong relationship skills required; able to build and maintain successful working relations across the company.
- Some direct leadership experience and leadership skills are required; engaged and inspirational leader able to effectively influence in a matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems and drive results.
- Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage and prioritize competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Resourceful and intellectually curious.
- Strong Excel skills; familiarity with TM1 and Apptio a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Finance preferred.
Compensation:
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $129,760 - $194,640.
