The principal duties of this role are to assist in experiments for research projects under the supervision of the PI of the laboratory. Specifically, the lab is part of the Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research, focusing on targeted protein degradation.
The Słabicki Laboratory is dedicated to expanding the druggable proteome by employing functional genomics and targeted protein degradation. We have extensive experience in functional genomic approaches, cell biology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Our two main areas of investigation are characterizing novel derivatives of thalidomide in order to re-deploy them for new indications and identifying novel E3 ubiquitin ligase – substrate interactions to facilitate therapeutic efforts for targeted degradation. Our current research has the potential to expand the repertoire of E3 ligases susceptible to degradation with small molecules.
Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, and conduct experiments leading to identify E3 ligases modulating selected cancer dependencies.
- Innovate, plan, and conduct experiments in controlled laboratory settings to expand scientific knowledge.
- Record data, analyze key findings, and share research with the scientific community.
- Be involved in applying for external research funding.
As this is a senior role, a doctorate degree is required.
Key skills include critical thinking for analyzing data and forming conclusions, attention to detail for accuracy, proficiency in data collection, organization, and analysis, effective communication for team coordination, understanding of statistics for data interpretation, expertise in experimental design for hypothesis testing, and molecular biology techniques to improve research proficiency and competitiveness.
The candidate needs to have expertise in the following molecular biology techniques:
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Gel electrophoresis
- DNA extraction
- Western blotting
- Cell culture
- RNA isolation
- Gene cloning
- Protein expression
- DNA sequencing
- Transfection, CRISPR screening, and Next Generation Sequencing
