We are seeking an exceptional Executive Director to lead Maui Hotel and Lodging Association. This highly influential leader will oversee all aspects of the Association, ensuring a strong vision is executed and goals are achieved. The ideal candidate will bring a unique blend of strategic planning, government relations, and senior leadership experience to drive growth, improvement, and success.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support Maui County’s visitor industry and employees
- Voices the industry’s concerns to Government officials and the public
- Support workforce development within the visitor industry
- Maintain, and when and where appropriate, increase the industry’s involvement in community efforts
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Attendance at the association meetings
- Attend all MHLA meetings, Directors Meetings, Quarterly meetings, and general membership meetings.
- Attend and provide comments at HLTA board and membership meetings
- Attendance at appropriate civic and public hearings.
- Attend public meetings, County Council Meetings, and governmental hearings as directed and share necessary information with members
- Prepare Industry Position Statements as directed.
- Political Action
- Establish relationships with Maui County government officials and the necessary Hawaii State government officials.
- Provide the Board & members with information and input on government issues that affect the visitor industry.
- Submit written and oral testimony at State and County Hearings
- Maintain and increase political awareness of members
- Act as a liaison between MHLA and elected officials
- Attend public meetings and hearings where issues affecting the industry will be discussed, providing testimony when appropriate.
- Organize gatherings of Association members and political officials to enhance the Association's presence with those officials.
- Provide Board recommendations for PAC donations for each election period
- Public Relations
- Work with the Communications Director:
- Compose press releases for MHLA events & visitor industry related issues; acquire information from hotel and association members.
- Develop and prepare monthly E-newsletter
- Maintain & keep website current
- Coordinate events and projects that benefit the community and that are visitor industry related including, but not limited to: Visitor Industry Charity Walks on Maui, Molokai & Lanai; Excellence in Education Golf Tournament; Kupuna Appreciation; Rice For The Holidays
- Manage the Charitable Year-Round Giving fund
- Membership Development and Retention
- Increase interaction and communication with existing members.
- Provide networking and added-value opportunities.
- Acquire new members in both the lodging and allied areas.
- Function as liaison between board and membership.
- Periodic assessment of needed committees or seminars
- Management & Administration
- Provide direction & supervision to office staff
- Establish and adhere to annual budgets with the assistance of the board treasurer and contracted bookkeeper.
- With the chairperson, prepare, organize, and participate in the Association’s monthly board meetings.
- Manage all aspects of the business

- Work with UH Maui College, High Schools, and ClimbHI to develop workforce development
- Arrange for seminars and meetings for other hospitality-related items for membership (ie, ADA & OSHA seminars)
- Manage the MHLA Scholarship program for AOHT students, AOHT alumni, and MHLA Member scholarships.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
