WAM Theatre General Manager
Location: Lenox, Massachusetts

Reports to: Managing Director
Work Schedule: Minimum 3 days per week in-office, with additional in-person time required during production periods and high-volume operational times.
About WAM Theatre: For over 15 years, WAM Theatre has thrived at the intersection of art and activism, presenting critically-acclaimed stories and innovative theatrical productions that center the lives of women and girls. Located in Western Massachusetts, WAM's impact extends beyond the theatre. WAM makes theater to advocate for a better world for women and girls by building critical partnerships with thought leaders and community-based organizations who work on the front lines of gender and racial justice. We invest directly back into our community by donating a portion of proceeds from our Mainstage production back to our partners. Across 15 seasons, WAM has presented more than 60 stories and donated over $100,000 to our community. Job Summary: The General Manager is responsible for managing the operational, financial, and administrative functions of WAM Theatre. This role collaborates closely with the Managing Director, Artistic Director, and other staff members to ensure the organization's mission is realized through effective financial management, operational oversight, and company management. The General Manager will play a critical role in fostering a positive workplace culture and driving the organization's growth and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Manage financial reporting, forecasting, and auditing processes. Carry out administrative tasks affecting daily financial operations, including bookkeeping, supply orders, and contract preparations. Reconcile all WAM bank and credit card accounts monthly and the Fidelity account quarterly. Monitor the annual operating budget and cash flow. Manage monthly accounts payable and receivable, and carry out weekly payroll and Simple IRA ensuring both timeliness and accuracy. Prepare for external audits and year-end tax filings. Support the preparation of data and impact to contribute to the annual report.
- Company Management & Radical Hospitality: Support Artistic Director with Co-Production budgeting and negotiations process. Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Senior Manager of Creative Programming on production budgeting and resource allocation. Organize and execute all professional contracts, including theatre rentals, artistic and staff contracts, insurance agreements, and union contracts. Serve as a liaison between artists and the organization, addressing the everyday needs of production participants, including payroll, housing, transportation, and hospitality. Provide artist hospitality and support, including the delivery of gifts and food provisions. Attend cross-department meetings and related gatherings.
- Operations Management: Manage day-to-day operations, including facilities management and IT support. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Implement best-in-class policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency. Research and recommend IT, Utility and other services to achieve best possible service and savings.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Business Management, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of management experience in a nonprofit or arts organization. Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial reporting. Excellent communication skills.
