Reporting to the North Regional President, the President, Chief Hospital Executive, Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the Hackensack University Medical Center's strategic directives focused on achieving desired clinical, financial, quality of care, service, and workforce objectives consistent with a nationally recognized academic flagship medical center. The President/CHE is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of the strategic and daily operating activities for the HUMC site in accordance with the Executive Staff Table of Organization. The scope of this medical center and Chief Hospital Executive position also encompasses the renowned, nationally recognized John Theurer Cancer Center and Joseph Sanzari Children's Hospital.
The significance of Hackensack University Medical Center includes an 803-bed nonprofit teaching and research hospital as Bergen County’s first hospital founded in 1888. It was also the first hospital in New Jersey and second in the nation to become a Magnet-recognized hospital for nursing excellence, receiving its sixth consecutive designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a President, Chief Hospital Executive, Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Visionary and Strategic Planning:
- In collaboration with the Regional President and senior leadership team, leverages innovation of current resources and systems and explores and prepares for new models of care that support population health and positions the hospital competitively in the market while responding to the dynamic needs of the community.
- Relationship Management:
- Establishes effective working relationships with key constituents, including community, employed and independent physicians, team members, and board members through open collaboration and consistent communication.
- Performance Improvement:
- Exhibits leadership and fosters commitment to continuous improvement of quality, safety and the human experience whereby decision-making is driven by data analytics to achieve clinical excellence and customer loyalty.
- Clinical Service Integration:
- Develops and fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments, matrixed care transformation services, employed and independent physicians, and other affiliated services.
- People Management:
- Provides oversight and ensures effective recruitment of competent staff as well as development and supervision of team members to deliver optimal levels of service.
- Financial Management/KPIs:
- In conjunction with the North Region President, directs the development and implementation of the organization's performance improvement program, workforce assessment and annual operating budget, plans, goals, and objectives.
- Data Management and Analytics:
- Directs analyses and reports on relevant data and metrics to influence a high performing organization.
- Facilities Management:
- Works directly with the HMH Facility & Construction team to ensure alignment with expansion/renovation/modernization needs of the HUMC site.
- Other Duties as Assigned:
- Complete all assignments and projects in a timely fashion.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Master Degree - Business Administration or Hospital Administration.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive management and leadership experience as an executive within a large academic medical center or multi-hospital health system.
- Expertise in managing large complex budgets, facilities and clinical operations.
- A successful track record developing and managing service lines.
- Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills.
- Proven effectiveness in building and maintaining strong physician relations in an academic medical center and multi-hospital health system environment.
- Experience working collaboratively with chairs and chiefs of services in achievement of the highest quality, efficient program operations and growth.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in both healthcare delivery and managed care.
- Intimate knowledge of, and experience in state regulatory affairs.
- Well developed planning, marketing, organizational development, and business skills.
- Information systems capabilities and appreciation for the data which will be required to make meaningful management decisions.
- Ability to work with physicians and professionals in multiple settings and locations and to promote diversity in the workplace.
- Able to work effectively in multiple areas within a complex, multi-faceted organization.
- Good business acumen with strong leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multi-task.
