With this growth and opportunity, we are looking to expand our team by adding a new Chief Financial Officer.
As a member of Carver Companies’ executive leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) will lead the finance function supporting Carver’s rapidly growing business. The CFO will provide strategic and tactical support to the CEO and senior leadership team and drive the organization’s financial results. This position will be responsible for the financial well-being of the operation, including strategy, analysis, reporting, financial controls, budgeting, resource allocation, and related compliance.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in construction or related accounting with hands-on knowledge of daily construction and/or maritime operations to oversee the financial vitality of the company. The ideal candidate must possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, depth of judgement, and the leadership abilities needed to lead the company’s financial functions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate as a strategic business partner to Carver’s CEO and executive leadership team, working alongside them to grow and evolve the business.
- Establish and maintain operational and financial controls and internal safeguards for the assets of the organization.
- Oversee the organization’s budgeting process, aligning current operations with future company objectives. This includes creating a long-term financial plan that integrates strategy to enhance the company’s financial position.
- Partner with sales and operations to provide a strong financial perspective that operates as both a check and sounding board for potential and existing opportunities.
- Develop, prepare and ensure timely execution of informational reports that advise management and work with management to optimize current business results and evaluate new initiatives.
- Lead and ensure the preparation and presentation of timely and accurate monthly, and as needed, financial reports to internal and external constituencies.
- Develop and manage ongoing strategic and operating plans, including leading the annual operational budget process and ensuring goals are met.
- Build and continue to develop the financial team to ensure performance of the finance function, including direction of controller roles.
- Ensure the timely and successful completion of financial and regulatory audits, reporting activities to leadership.
Education, Experience & Competencies
- Extensive financial experience and proven track record as a CFO.
- CPA and/or MBA are preferred.
- Must have the leadership presence to effectively partner with senior business executives, possessing strong communication skills to influence both internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be knowledgeable across taxation, investments, banking, statutory financial reporting, and systems.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills. Ability and commitment to continually develop team members, both technically and professionally.
- Ability to demonstrate well-reasoned insights on complex finance and accounting issues related to the business and its near- and long-term objectives.
- Exhibit the intellectual abilities, analytical skills, and sound business judgment to make decisions in the best interest of the business.
- Strong sense of accountability, including the ability to establish compelling goals and performance objectives, and the ability to motivate while following through on commitments and deadlines.
- Exhibit the ability to make decisions and necessary course corrections based on available information and analysis.
- Excellent at building strong and sustainable working relationships and be a team player who can quickly and accurately assess critical needs for improving individual and team performance.
- Must be an experienced, transparent, and engaging communicator with good listening skills.
- Able to understand and distill complex financial matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effectively communicate in a meaningful manner and convey a strong sense of executive presence across the organization.
- Ability to occasionally travel, as applicable.
- Experience with job costing is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Estimated compensation range is $200,000 to $450,000 per year. Actual compensation may be higher or lower, in or outside of the range, based on a number of factors.
