Job Description
As the Sr. Director of Engineering on the Commerce team you will build and lead a talented team of engineers and technical staff responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing our Commerce technology solutions. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and be a driver of innovation and solution delivery.

- Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Commerce engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Team Development: Recruit, onboard, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technical professionals.
- Product Development: Drive the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from ideation and requirements gathering to implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Architecture and Design: Define and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable architecture and design patterns for our Commerce platform, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security.
- Technology and Innovation: Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools to support our Commerce platform's development and evolution.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with marketing, product, creative, design, quality assurance, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business goals and customer needs.
- Agile Processes: Implement and optimize agile development methodologies and processes to facilitate rapid, iterative delivery of high-quality software solutions.
- Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Establish metrics, KPIs, and monitoring tools to track system performance, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous optimization and improvement.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Vendor and Budget Management: Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and partners involved in Commerce platform development and support.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's/advanced degree preferred.
- Proven track record of 8+ years of leadership experience and 8+ years of application engineering experience preferably in eCommerce domain.
- Experience in commerce platforms such as Shopify, Commerce tools, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud preferred.
- Strong technical proficiency in web development languages and familiarity with platforms such as CMS, DAM, Search/Merch, AB testing frameworks and other Marketing platforms preferred.
- Knowledge of ReactJS, Typescript, NodeJS based applications is a plus.
- Experience in integrations with backend systems including Identity, ERP, Data warehouse, CDP preferred.
- Deep understanding of e-commerce trends, UX/UI principles, product performance and digital marketing.
- Deep understanding of Consumer Insights & Analytics including but not limited to site instrumentation, tagging, personalization, segmentation and customer engagement tools & processes.
- Experience in platform selections, when to build vs buy with an eye towards scalability, maintenance and extensibility.
- Proven track record of success in leading technology-driven initiatives and driving transformative change.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, prioritize effectively, and make data-driven decisions to drive product success.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in vendor management, contract negotiation, and budget management.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving business needs and technological advancements.
- Experience with agile development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, and familiarity with product management tools such as Jira.
- Passion for innovation and continuous learning, with a proactive attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.

The salary range for this role is $220,000 per year - $240,000 per year.
This role is bonus eligible.
