We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic software engineering leader to build the Field onboarding experiences for Northwestern Mutual. As an Assistant Director of Engineering for Contracting, Licensing, and Registrations, you will create the backbone systems that enable Field users to onboard and license field personnel to sell our products. In this role, you will lead multiple groups of software engineering teams, including both engineers and people leaders, across various technologies.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership to teams working on user experiences, BPM, and APIs.
Ensure a high standard of reliability, performance, and production stability.
Establish, aggregate, and share standards and best practices.
Mentor and coach team members both technically and professionally, providing opportunities for continuous growth.
Recruit, hire, and onboard talent, ensuring the right mix of skills within the team.
Manage team size, design, and budget.
Ensure production stability, monitoring, and perform root cause analysis for products.
Qualifications:
Education : Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Experience :
6-8 years of professional experience required.
3-5+ years of experience with modern engineering tools, languages, and practices.
2-5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
Technical Skills :
Strong background in BPM tools, such as IBM BPM and Flowable.
Experience building APIs using Java or NodeJS.
Working knowledge of ReactJS is preferred.
Leadership Skills :
Proven ability to grow engineering skill sets in others.
Experience developing future engineering leaders.
Capability in providing direct feedback and performance reviews.
Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering significant and impactful technology solutions.

Compensation Range:
Pay Range - Start: $146,440.00
Pay Range - End: $271,960.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
