The Board of Directors of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce (“Chamber”) is seeking the organization’s next President & CEO. The Chamber is a nonprofit association that promotes a thriving business community in Cabell and Wayne counties by connecting people, places, and resources. To support this mission, the Chamber prioritizes three pillars: Connect Community, Cultivate Growth, and Catalyze Development.
The Chamber was created in 1890 as the Huntington Board of Trade and was one of the four founding members of the United States Chamber of Commerce. The successful candidate will honor the rich history and legacy of the Chamber while providing visionary leadership to drive the organization forward in a rapidly evolving business environment, fostering innovation, collaboration, and strategic growth to ensure continued success for its members and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the chief executive officer, providing leadership, direction, and administration of the Chamber’s operations, programs, and strategic initiatives
- Execute the Chamber’s strategic plan and update the plan as needed in collaboration with the Board of Directors
- Supervise the Director of Membership, Director of Marketing, and Office & Events Coordinator
- Lead efforts to recruit, retain, and engage members
- Provide oversight and leadership for Chamber events, programs, marketing, and initiatives that promote business networking, leadership development, and community engagement.
- Oversee the Chamber’s financial operations, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial planning to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Chamber and as a representative for the business community to government officials, in the media, and on various boards and committees
- Champion policies and initiatives that support the business community and regional economic development
- Partner with local economic development organizations, city and county officials, and private industry to promote growth and investment in the region
- Build relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, government officials, and community partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, economic development, leadership, or a related field
- 5+ years of executive level experience leading a similar organization, company, or nonprofit, with proven results in strategic planning, financial management, and community relations
- Experience working for a Chair, Executive Committee, or Board
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences and represent the Chamber effectively
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team
- Strong background in event planning, fundraising, and program development
- Well-known and respected in the local business community
- Knowledge of the economic landscape and key industries in the region
- Strong relationship builder and collaborator with the ability to work effectively with public, private, and nonprofit sectors
- Results-oriented with a track record of driving growth and achieving organizational goals
- Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex challenges and opportunities
The President and CEO will work from the Chamber office in River Tower (1108 Third Ave Suite 300 Huntington, WV 25701).
This is a full-time salaried position. Compensation will be determined based on experience plus paid time off, health insurance, life insurance, and retirement.
The successful candidate would be expected to live within the Cabell and Wayne County area or move to this area after accepting the position.
