INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOLASTIC BOWL
Scholastic Bowl is a competitive, team-based trivia game that tests students' academic, cultural, and political knowledge. A match consists of three rounds of trivia as described below:
Round One
Four players per team WITH buzzers. 15 questions. Each question is read by the judge. Questions are long, starting with obscure information and ending with more obvious clues. The first player to buzz and correctly answer the question gets 10 points for their team.
If a player buzzes BEFORE the question is finished being read AND gets it wrong, the team receives -5 points and NO OTHER players from that team may buzz (meaning the other team gets to hear the whole question).
If a player waits until the question is finished being read, buzzes, and answers incorrectly, no negative points are assigned.
There is no conferring about answers in Round One.
Round Two
Four players per team WITHOUT buzzers. 20 questions - 10 directed questions per team (including two pencil-and-paper math questions per time). Teams alternate being asked questions. Players may confer for 10 seconds before giving their answer (20-30 seconds per math question as noted on the question). 10 points per correct answer. Answers are given by the team captain unless the captain defers to another player (by saying 'Defer to...').
The team losing after Round One chooses if they want to answer the 'A' set of questions or the 'B' set of questions.
If a team gets their directed question wrong, the other team may steal the 10 points by providing a correct answer within 3 seconds.
Round Three
Same as Round 1.
The team with the highest total number of points wins the match.
