Your new role
The key purpose of the role is to design and maintain the University's overall technical architecture in order to meet the strategic objectives of the university. You will be integral in designing the architecture that describes the services needed to coherently deliver the end to end operation of the university covering the whole student lifecycle as well as set of business processes. The Assistant Director IT for Strategy and Architecture manages a small team of Technical Architects and Business Analysts and leads them to continually assure that the technical architecture supports the operational needs of staff and students, and that the architecture can be delivered cost effectively and securely.
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience maintaining awareness of external drivers on the university, and the development of new technology, to keep the architecture current and updated to meet or benefit from those new developments.
- Be a lead to the development of the technical architecture that supports the totality of the university's functions and in such a way that balances strategic direction, function, quality, supportability, security and cost.
- Experience defining and delivering service improvement initiatives for students and staff.
- Proven record of building, maintaining and supporting the technical services managed by the IT and Digital Service; managing the information security risk of the university.
- Be able to define and execute the rolling project portfolio to meet the defined strategic and tactical aims.
- Good degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant technical subject.
- Experience of architectural processes and standards.
- Proven knowledge of techniques to model business operations.
- Expert knowledge of IT systems across the whole ISO seven-layer model.
- Experience in information management and information security principles.
- Highly developed skills in prototype and proof of concept management.
- Proven leadership and management skills, including change management methods to introduce innovation and new processes.
