Sr. Manager, Tech Risk Advisory & Oversight
Technology Risk Management (TRM) is a growing organization focused on providing expert advice, credible challenge, and effective oversight of information security and technology activities to identify, assess, control, and manage cyber and technology risk throughout the company. This organization plays a critical role in helping to ensure that the company’s risk-taking entities are aware of the risks inherent in their activities and decisions, the impact of their actions on the company at an enterprise level, and opportunities to reduce, mitigate, or avoid risks altogether. Associates within the Technology Risk Management organization are highly-skilled information security, cyber, technology, or risk management professionals who have a wealth of experience and a demonstrated ability to provide value-added recommendations and deliver high-impact results in their areas of expertise.
As the Senior Manager, Technology Risk Advisory and Oversight, you will have a strong understanding of all areas of cybersecurity. Our business is continuously building new technology. Specific responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Technology Risk Advisory and Oversight include and are not limited to:
- Reviewing the business’ proposals to identify technology risk
- Assessing the processes and controls necessary to mitigate that risk and whether they are sufficient
- Using subject matter expertise to ensure that our businesses are able to launch new initiatives while still managing risk appropriately
- Working independently as well as collaborate with the businesses, tech infrastructure, first line cybersecurity, and third line audit
- Demonstrating cybersecurity and tech risk expertise through thoughtful and respectful challenge even when registering dissenting or unpopular opinions
- As part of a team, developing and implementing processes to provide independent oversight and effective challenge of the firm’s information technology and cybersecurity
- Building and maintaining relationships with technical leaders, business owners, engineers and other stakeholders to understand and evaluate implementation plans, business priorities and technical solutions to ensure risks are well communicated and understood by the key stakeholders
- Keeping up-to-date on cutting edge technology, standards, protocols and tools in areas relevant to the rapidly changing environment at Capital One, specifically cloud native architecture, serverless, and emerging public cloud services
- Providing technical assessments of technology and cybersecurity controls design and effectiveness
- Drafting assessments for senior management and other stakeholders, to include regulatory agencies and the Board of Directors, as needed
- Coordinating program-related activities and deliverables to ensure effective collaboration within the team and across stakeholder groups
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 5 years of experience in information security or information technology
- At least 3 years experience with Public Cloud implementations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or in an Engineering discipline
- 1+ years of experience drafting reports or analytic assessments for senior management
- Professional Amazon Web Services certification (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Security Specialty, AWS SysOps Administrator) OR Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Experience with Information Security at the policy, architecture or implementation level
- Experience with identifying and communicating key risks related to cloud native implementations AND architectures OR to Asset Management (Cloud and Non-Cloud) AND Configuration Management
- Familiarity with controls and control frameworks (NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, CIS Top 20, ISO, COBIT)
- Prior experience working in financial services or other highly-regulated sectors

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
