Who we are looking for
Purpose
To strengthen our Global Business Development team we are searching for an experienced candidate as Senior Director of Global Business Development RARE, to be included in the Global Business Development Rare Team. The role will report into VP, Head Global Business Development RARE.
Main Responsibilities
As Senior Director of Global Business Development RARE, he/she will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Continuously monitors and performs systematic landscaping of opportunity of the external innovation space within Rare Diseases in order to identify Business Development opportunities in line with corporate and GBU strategy.
- Generates and builds extensive international network in the RARE space and communicates with potential external partners Chiesi value proposition in the RARE space.
- Builds and nurtures solid relationships and cooperation with R&D, commercial within the RARE Business Units and other relevant corporate functions, and is effectively able to lead cross-functional teams.
- Working closely with the Due Diligence, Alliance Management and Integration colleagues, he/she provides project leadership on RARE BD opportunities ensuring a strong coordination and effective communication between Chiesi team and external partners from initial assessment all the way through deal closure.
- Throughout the project he/she guarantees a clear information flow, involvement and alignment of all internal stakeholders and robustness of the final outcome, from scientific, business and financial perspective including the recommendations to governance/management, continuously seeking to improve the internal BD process.
- Assembles business cases and masters all aspect of valuation (value drivers, risks, upsides) for all types of RARE opportunities and is able to generate and update appropriate deal structures and deal terms that align internal and external interest in coordination with the VP, Head of Global Business Development RARE.
- Pitches opportunities to the senior leadership of the company seeking approval according to the internal governance and keeps executive leadership regularly informed providing reports on results, inflection points and decisions to be made.
- Maintains and solidifies relationships with the partners and/or counterparts throughout the discussions and actively leads to the negotiation phase in coordination with the VP, Head of Global Business Development RARE.
- Facilitates the handover to the Alliance Management and Integration Team pre and post deal.
Experience Required
A minimum of 7 years of international experience in Business Development roles in the Pharma and Biotech industry with a significant track record of deals closed for assets, both under development and in-market, preferably with global scope and in the Rare Diseases space is required; additional experience in finance or consulting or Research and Development is a plus. International exposure including but not limited to significant experience abroad (one year or more) and previous experience in a multinational organization are required.
Education
Degree in life sciences and/or pharmaceutical sciences is required. PhD or MBA is considered a significant plus.

Technical Skills
- Extensive understanding of drug development process and good understanding of commercial, legal, tax/finance and IP matters.
- Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking, coupled with the ability to exemplify complex business issues into financial models.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
Languages
Fluency in English is mandatory, an additional language will be considered a plus.
