Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager as a Process Engineer you will provide technical support and leadership at the East Hanover facility including formula and process improvements, scale-up of new products and processes, product transfers, material and product quality issues, obsolescence, and effective technical troubleshooting. Solid communication, collaboration, and technical skills are required to ensure effective execution of projects and initiatives.
Main Responsibilities
New Product or Process Industrialization:
- Review formulas and new processes for manufacturing, quality, and safety viability and resolve issues with support from the creator and other stakeholders.
- Lead and monitor scale-up and first time production as appropriate to ensure product can be effectively produced.
- Validate and support product transfers.
- Strong collaboration required with the production, quality, planning department, FC&A and S+T.
- Propose and implement process and formula revisions to optimize as applicable.
Technical Process Improvement and Engineering:
- Identify, define, justify, and implement process and formula improvements that will impact site performance (quality, cost reduction, yield, safety).
- Provide site process engineering support. Identify, justify, provide scope and process requirements for technical process improvement projects. Strong link to M&E / regional engineering.
- Create and update P&ID's, PFD's, operational parameters.
- Oversee start-up of new equipment / processes
- Perform detailed capacity analsysis and apply DMAIC approach to problem identification and resolution.
Technical Problem Solving
- Provide operations solutions for formula and process issues such as poor yield, chronic quality issues, excessive processing time, insufficient process controls, high product discard levels, formula or process related safety issues.
- Provide solutions for the rework of out of specification product that requires technical intervention.
- Handle complex problem resolution involving multiple processes and/or formulas.
Project leadership and support
•Lead and support site improvement projects such as product transfers, quality improvement projects, yield improvement projects, cost reduction, and capacity improvement projects.

Your professional profile includes:
- B.S. (or higher) in chemical engineering or related technical field with 3 – 6 years experience in process and/or project work.
- Knowledge of food ingredients and common food industry raw material processing techniques preferred.
- Experience working with diverse workforces including technical teams, manufacturing groups and leadership.
- Prefer Manufacturing/Engineering technical background, including product industrialization, process engineering, complex machinery and material flow, installations and evaluation of equipment into a growth environment. Familiar with Lean fundamentals.
- Understanding of accounting, financial, and MRP systems preferred.
- Understanding of local, state and federal regulations and GMPs affecting the food industry preferred.
- Knowledge of Safety and QC functions and requirements preferred.
